PIG GUY NYC [8413 3rd Avenue] will soon have a standalone store to call their own.  The best part is it's coming to Bay Ridge, first!

This comes quickly on the heels of founder, Thomas Perone's most recent project, opening up Thomas' Greek Kitchen, a Greek fast-casual concept in the Barclay Center (March 2nd).  Attention now turns toward the opening of their first true standalone brick and mortar here along 3rd Ave's Restaurant Row.

Brooklyn Paper and Brooklyn Magazine broke the news on this roughly 8 weeks earlier but they're just finalizing the menu now, so expect a grand opening date relatively soon. We'll be there to cover it.

Pig Guy replaces former tenant & independent bagel shop, Bunch of Bagels, which really didn't catch any traction with the neighborhood.

A Franchise in the making, Made in NYC

However, many have failed to see the significance.  There hasn't been anything this big in recent memory since Pitmaster Tyson Ho opened the well-documented Arrogant Swine in Bushwick back in October 2014.

We believe it will also mark the first of a true franchise model born here in NYC, complementing their existing presence at MCU Field, Citi Field, Gansevoort Market, and the catering business.

The focus is really on building a brand with the help of childhood friend and business partners (Pasquale “Bino” Trunzo, and George Venetsanakos) , and for future franchisees to buy into this model of expansion.

For Bay Ridgeites, many of us understand the state of barbecue in Bay Ridge to be rather, slim pickings, as former Aloha Grinds from two years ago that offered Hawaiian BBQ shuttered, and Uncle Jimmy's offers a different style of BBQ.  According to Tom Perone, he believes they'll be "taking smoked meats to another level" by expanding the availability of great food in our area.

There will be a smoker on-site to produce some of the finest pulled pork sandwiches without having to arrange for transportation and the servings will be prepared identical to what's being offered at the other locations.  There will be some fine tuning as with all new restaurants of course, but we should probably expect to see their tried and true formula of pulled pork with red hook slaw topped with thai chili bbq sauce, the chorizo dog, the "Mac Attack", and other popular barbecue offerings.

We hope this also means an appearance of "Pig on a Stick" this summer, a popular item featured at the Bacon and Beer Classic.

Well, welcome back to Bay Ridge, Tom! It's been a long time coming.

You can find Pig Guy NYC at MCU Field, Citi Field, Gansevoort Market and visit them on FacebookInstagram, and Twitter

  1. My friend and I tried the newest Pig Guy location in Bay Ridge today; we each ordered the $12.00 smoked brisket sandwich. The counterman seemed confused and slightly aggressive ( "talk to me"). The sandwich was mostly bread with perhaps a 1/4 lb of meat. The brisket was mediocre at best; some pieces were flavorful while most were stringy, fatty or tough. The menu offers 1 pound of brisket for $24.00.....seems we paid $12 each for a six buck sandwich we didn't enjoy. At least the hardworking waitress/busgirl asked us if we wanted ice for the warm soda we were served. The place just opened and may need time to get the kinks out, but you can't call yourselves Pig Guys unless you know how to smoke brisket. Let's hope they get it together.
