Monaco's Bakery Closes After Five Years

Monaco's Bakery
Monaco's Bakery
Monaco's Bakery and Cafe [8511 3rd Ave], the family-owned and operated business of Joe and Elizabeth Monaco closed its doors for the last time in April 2015 after an amazing 5 year run.

As we were caught unaware until after its closure, the son of Joe Monaco Sr. confirmed the news on Facebook by posting the following:

Pastry Chef Joe Monaco with over 48 years of experience under his belt, the 40 year veteran of East Village favorite Veniero's produces some of the best Italian pastries and cakes the city has ever had. One simply cannot mention Monaco's without first lamenting about the award-winning strawberry shortcake and amazing cannolis.

We found this bit of news bittersweet but hopeful and glad that the Monaco's decided to discontinue on their own terms.  To our readers, please message them directly via [EMail (at) Monacosbakery (dot) com], their website, and even their Facebook to express how fond of them you are; hope they consider taking up custom orders and/or catering in the future.  Best wishes! We're still thinking about and missing all those wonderful pastries & cannolis.
